Too many individuals who lay out the money to buy a beautiful carpet decide that carpet cleaning only need involve them and their vacuum cleaner. Carpets do require proper maintenance. Scheduling carpet cleaning is half the battle. If one happens to live in an area where heating is required in the winter, the carpet should be shampooed at the end of the heating season. Particularly in homes with wood and oil heat, debris gets thick in the air and invariably ends up in the carpet. At least one other carpet cleaning per year should be scheduled, at the beginning of the heating season, when windows are about to be closed and the interior air sealed off. This will remove pollen and other pollutants from the fiber before winter and create a cozy, clean atmosphere. Carpet cleaning, useful as it is, really costs very little money, even if one chooses to engage the services of a professional firm.
