Carpet Cleaning
Too many individuals who lay out the money to buy a beautiful carpet decide that carpet cleaning only need involve them and their vacuum cleaner. Carpets do require proper maintenance. Carpets that receive regular cleaning can last an incredibly long time, hold their like-new look and cleaning prevents dust and other pollutants from building up in the house. Carpet cleaners are available at most any grocery store and there are even inexpensive steam cleaners that can be purchased at discount retailers. Proper carpet care is a matter of protecting one's investment and the environment in one's house.
Carpets can't help it, they collect dust and debris. The literally billions of tightly-wound fibers are something of a natural filter, picking up floating and falling materials and trapping them within the pile. If one doesn't work to remedy this situation, a great carpet can end up looking dull, lackluster and can introduce materials into the air that may cause sensitive individuals some discomfort. The solution to this is so easy that it's a wonder it ever becomes a problem at all.
Steam cleaning a carpet gets the dust out, restores the color and adds a fresh smell to the entire room. Carpet cleaning with a steam machine is very easy. Anyone who has used a vacuum cleaner can do it and it takes only a few hours, even for the largest rooms. Most of the time spent on the project will actually be spent waiting for the carpet to dry between treatments, not doing the actual cleaning. When the carpet is dry, it will feel much like it did on the first day of installation.
Scheduling carpet cleaning is half the battle. If one happens to live in an area where heating is required in the winter, the carpet should be shampooed at the end of the heating season. Particularly in homes with wood and oil heat, debris gets thick in the air and invariably ends up in the carpet. At least one other carpet cleaning per year should be scheduled, at the beginning of the heating season, when windows are about to be closed and the interior air sealed off. This will remove pollen and other pollutants from the fiber before winter and create a cozy, clean atmosphere. Carpet cleaning, useful as it is, really costs very little money, even if one chooses to engage the services of a professional firm.
